And what a line-up of bikes and riders Wrighty has assembled for us to see. Every aspect of competition motorcycling will be represented in the halls at the Telford Exhibition Centre at Telford in Shropshire from trials to scrambles, enduro to road racing plus speedway, sprinting and well… you get the picture.
With a line-up of a Bultaco Sherpa from every year they were in the UK, Eddy Lejeune’s factory 360cc Honda of 1985, a ‘Dirty Dozen’ display of early Spanish and Italian bikes, the very last BSA factory bike – a 175cc Bantam and all the winning machines and riders of the Pre 65 Scottish one and two day trial that celebrates its 30th anniversary in May 2014! Remember those ultra trick Suzukis from the mid-70s? There’s one of those too.
Complementing the Bultaco Sherpa display is the Maico Mania display of original Maico machinery from the early 1960s to the late 80s.
Wrighty’s show always attracts the big names from our sport and alongside special guest star Brad Lackey, USA’s first world motocross champion in 1982 after 10 long years on the 500cc circuits, ‘on duty’ at Telford will be Steve Saunders, Mary Driver, Pete Edmondson and Ron Langston.
And a special display centred around James ‘Bud’ Ekins – movie stunt man, desert racer and ISDT gold medalist and a long association with Triumph before switching to a 250 Husqvarna for the 1967 ISDT. That Husky is on display at Telford with associated ‘Bud’ paraphernalia.
