Dirt Bike Show: day three starts

by

Malcolm Rathmell recognises his pic on the Classic Dirt Bike poster!

Newly crowned pre 65 Classic Dirt Bike scrambles champion Chris Chell brought his Cheney Victor along for display at the Show. Chris is on the bike while his brother Joe – normally seen in the chair of his dad's 920 Wasp outfit – was persuaded into the shot with "If I'm in the pic you're in too."

With plenty of people milling about our Guess The Weight competition proved popular and brought some interesting answers like '400kg'… You'd have to be fit to haul a 400kg bike around and the place to get that fit might well be on the Dirt Bike Gym stand as a complete work-out unit is on offer for £259 at the Show.

Just up from our stand there was a superb collection of clasic and evo race bikes with Dave Watson's own 125cc YZ Yamaha, brilliantly restored, attracting a whole load of interest. So much that we couldn't get near it until almost Show closing time.

Dirt Bike ShowThe CDB archive contains loads of images of 80s – and earlier – mx and trials. We got some made up into banners and they attracted a lot of attention, including one of the subjects pictured. Malcolm Rathmell, now the Sherco importer, was a top Montesa development rider in the 70s and was happy to stand next to the poster of himself. call in to the Sherco stand, see 'Rastus' then check out the poster on our stand.

There's plenty more to see today, day three of the Show, including world MX2 runner-up Tommy Searle. Catch Tommy on the stage at 11am when he makes the AMCA Masters presentation, followed by an interview with Jack Burnicle. He'll then be on the Kawasaki stand in hall one signing autographs and back on stage at 2.45pm.

We hope to see you there.

The International Dirt Bike Show is open until 5.30pm today and tomorrow, and 5.00pm on Sunday. Adult admission is £15, youths £7.50 and children aged ten and under go free. Parking is plentiful and free!
